Government teams often need to explain a service, support an outreach campaign, or prepare training materials without a graphic designer available for every request. When staff and time are limited, getting a visual idea onto the page can be a challenge.
ChatGPT’s image creation tool lets you describe an image in everyday language, generate a draft, and refine it through conversation. You can ask for a simpler background, a different composition, or more space for a heading. This gives staff a practical way to explore ideas and develop visual drafts while focusing design support where it adds the most value.

For government, that could mean exploring an illustration for a public-information campaign, creating a fictional scene for a training exercise, or trying several visual approaches before briefing a communications team. The goal is to help people communicate clearly and make better use of limited resources.

A quick way to learn what to ask for

You don’t need a design vocabulary to begin. But knowing a few terms can help you describe what you have in mind.
The attached visual prompting cheat sheet offers 55 techniques to explore. It isn’t a comprehensive guide; it’s a quick reference you can keep beside you as you learn.
Scan the sheet, choose a technique, and combine it with your task. For example:
Create a flat-lay illustration for a fictional community volunteer orientation. Show a notebook, pen, water bottle, plain reflective vest and flashlight, arranged separately on a light background. Leave space for a heading. No logos or text.
“Flat lay” gives ChatGPT a visual direction. Your description supplies the purpose and content. From there, ask for changes and compare the results.
Start with one small task. Use the cheat sheet to try an unfamiliar format, learn what works, and build confidence through practice. Before sharing, check the image’s accuracy, readability and fit with your agency’s standards.
Download the one-page visual prompting cheat sheet and keep it handy for your next image prompt.
Techniques marked with an asterisk require a video or animation workflow for actual motion.
