Model launch resources

Choose where to use GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and Astra Ultrafast. Confirm access, compare results on familiar work, and find the resources for your role.

What’s new with GPT-6 Astra

GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI’s most intelligent model, combining deeper reasoning and judgment with computer use to take on demanding professional work.

  • Deeper judgment. Work through conflicting sources and tradeoffs (e.g., to turn quarterly results into a clear business review).
  • Computer use. Gather context and carry work across apps and files with the tools and permissions available in your workspace.
  • Professional quality. Create clear writing, polished presentations, and analyses that fit your brief, audience, and templates.

Astra access depends on your plan, workspace permissions, and the product you use. Confirm access with your workspace owner or admin, and review the usage terms that apply to your organization.

GPT-6.1 Sol and Astra Ultrafast

GPT-6.1 Sol offers near-Astra performance across coding, computer use, and professional work at a lower cost. Astra remains recommended for the hardest scientific research.

  • GPT-6.1 Sol is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex on supported paid plans, and in the API. It is not yet available in Chat. Sol supports Standard and Fast modes; Sol Ultrafast is coming later.
  • Astra Ultrafast is a speed mode for Astra with faster token generation and higher usage cost. Access depends on your plan and workspace settings.

Confirm access with your admin, then compare the options on work your team already knows.

AI Platform Admins

Enable access and manage controls, usage, and support.

  1. Confirm availability and set  access. Astra requires a workspace owner to enable access in eligible Enterprise and Edu workspaces. Owners can grant access to the workspace or specific roles. Verify access in the ChatGPT, Work, or Codex experiences those teams use. Review Sol access separately from your starting model default. Sol is off by default in Enterprise and Edu until an admin enables it.
  2. Check existing controls with Astra. For workflows that use connected apps or computer use, test Astra with the team’s existing permissions. Confirm it can retrieve approved files, restricted actions remain blocked, and required approval prompts appear. Work with workflow owners to resolve access or configuration issues.
  3. Review the impact of usage. Confirm the usage terms that apply to Astra under your plan and review existing user/group limits, workspace overage settings, and alerts. Before enabling Astra Ultrafast, check eligibility, spend controls, and inference residency requirements. After access is enabled, investigate changes in usage and cost, reached limits, and model-related help requests.

Security and connected apps

Astra adds stronger safeguards against cyber misuse and monitoring to help prevent unauthorized actions. Review the safety update and safeguards guidance with your security team as you prepare to enable Astra.

Executive Sponsors

Set priorities and use evidence to guide model adoption.

  1. Try Astra on a leadership task. After confirming your access, use it for a familiar business review or decision. Compare the results with how you do that work today, then share what helped, what needed correction, and how you reviewed the result.
  2. Give teams time to evaluate models. Ask what Astra should improve—such as the rework required for a recurring analysis—and give teams time to compare it with their current approach. Test where Sol meets your quality bar at lower cost, and where paying for Astra Ultrafast addresses a meaningful delay. Recognize useful findings, including when the current model remains the better choice.
  3. Revisit priorities using results. Use results from teams’ model comparisons to decide whether a postponed priority or different approach to existing work is now practical. Commit people, time, and investment where the evidence supports a change.

Transformation Leaders

Coordinate model evaluation and rollout across the organization.

  1. Choose where to evaluate models. Identify where Astra could improve work that involves conflicting sources, complex tradeoffs, or demanding deliverables. Pilot Sol on a familiar workflow with several steps. Align Admins, workflow owners, and stakeholders on which opportunities to assess, who owns them, and what results would justify a model change.
  2. Prepare teams for the model change. Confirm availability with Admins before scheduling team access, then explain when to choose Astra or Sol. Share tested examples and any changes to instructions or review steps. Name who approves workflow changes and handles questions. Where delay matters, evaluate Astra Ultrafast separately with Admins and workflow owners.
  3. Measure the value of model changes. Bring together results from teams using Astra or Sol: quality, review and correction time, completion time, usage or cost, recurring use, and business outcomes. Compare these results before expanding. Decide with workflow owners which model changes to keep, revise, or reverse.

Agent Activators

Compare models on real workflows and recommend where to use each.

  1. Choose a workflow to evaluate. Use recurring work where Astra’s judgment or output quality could address a specific problem, such as conflicting sources or repeated corrections. Try Sol on repeated work across code, apps, or documents, and keep Astra for the most demanding work. Decide what would justify changing models (e.g., fewer factual errors or less time editing the result).
  2. Compare models with the current approach. Keep a copy of the current version. Check that you can select the model you want to test for the task or agent. Then, test the same examples, prompts, files, tools, permissions, and review standards with the test model and the current model. With Sol, start with the default reasoning effort and review the result. Compare output quality, actions taken, corrections, total completion time, and usage or cost. Test Astra Ultrafast separately where available, using the same measures.
  3. Recommend where to use each model. Share the comparison and recommend keeping the current model, testing further, or adopting the tested model for the work that benefits. Share tested instructions, review steps, and how to return to the previous version.

How to compare models in an existing workflow

  1. Check access and tools. Confirm you can select the model you want to test and access required files and apps. Resolve missing connections and access before testing the new model.
  2. Save the current version. Keep a copy of the current workflow, including its model settings, instructions, tools, permissions, and review steps.
  3. Use the same inputs and instructions. Change only the model first; keep files, tools, permissions, and output requirements the same.
  4. Test routine work and known limitations. Astra’s safety monitoring may pause or end a task. If a review prompt appears, read the notice and review the findings before resuming. Repeat important cases and test changes one at a time.
  5. Compare results and effort. Check errors, missed requirements, actions taken, pauses or stops, review requests, editing time, completion time, and usage or cost. Note whether interrupted work was within the task’s instructions.
  6. Decide whether to switch. Keep the current model, test further, or adopt the tested model where results justify it. Maintain named owners.

Use this process for Astra and Sol. Test Astra Ultrafast separately where available, and compare total completion time and usage before deciding whether the speed mode is worth its cost.
